Drew Welch, RN

Drew Welch, RN

Over more than 25 years working with individuals and families navigating addiction and mental health challenges, I’ve developed both rigorous clinical training and an understanding of recovery that goes beyond the textbooks or 12-step approaches.

I started from my own personal journey, a lived experience that you will feel. I found a path to recovery and renewal in nursing and long distance running - working in successively more senior positions in the fields of mental illness and addictions, and studying with excellent teachers and leaders.

As an individual therapist I bring a deep skillset. I am trained in IFS, CBT and ACT, motivational interviewing and moderation management. I ran a dual disorders unit, and several teams bringing many effective modalities together for the patient and family. As a nurse, I bring a deep understanding of medicine and the body, health and wellness. I am clear, straightforward and gentle.

As a family therapist, I specialize in helping families respond more effectively to a loved one's substance use or mental health crisis. I am trained in Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) — one of the most evidence-based approaches available to families, which helps families move from enabling to empowering.

Drew listening to a client

“Drew is simply the finest therapist I have ever had. I worked with so many before him but none understood me so well, and helped me so practically.” … Eileen P.

“Our family came to Drew despairing, not knowing how to help [our son]. He was reassuring and affirming but somehow got us both to change what we were doing, stop the cycle which was making things worse.” … Ian M.
